Eating gutter mud, making u-turns with 10-inch wide wheels and without power steering, and losing expensive 91 octane fuel from the fuel cell as it spilled out, things could have been better...........
I drove my truck exactly 106 miles before putting it on a trailer and towing it to Scott's Hot Rods for some work. I can still taste the water from the gutter I drove through that splashed up from the engine compartment and through the open vent window as I made my way home from the Forbidden Fantasy show. Guess I shouldn't have taken the hood off the '67 at the show and forgotten it there. The gutter incident highlighted the fact that throwing your project together just so you can drive it, when its not really complete isn't always fun. I definately had fun driving it, but when I was eating gutter mud, making u-turns with 10-inch wide wheels and no power steering, and losing expensive 91 octane fuel from the fuel cell as it spilled out, things could have been better.
So I nutted up and took the truck to the professionals to get a new bed floor built and some inner fenders fabricated to keep the road debris out of my mouth. It's coming out killer and if you pick up the October issue of Sport Truck you'll be able to see the entire rebuild of the bed in color. It's coming out killer!
