this morning i drove to Torrance, CA, to visit the gang at Compushift.
It was a 30 mile drive on the 405, which i did in third gear, because the computer for the 4l65E trans in the Brown Bomber needed a bit of tweaking. So, 65 mph equated to about 2,500 rpm on the highway because the trans wouldn't shift into fourth gear and the converter wouldn't lock up into overdrive.
Mike at Compushift only needed about 30 minutes to figure out what was going on and I was back on the road. Now the truck cruises at 70 mph while only spinning the motor at about 1,700 rpm and 80 mph at 2,000 rpm-without the engine lugging at all. The speedo isn't working yet so i dont know what kind of mpg numbers the Bomber is going to put up, but I think I can squeeze about 18 mpg out of this 34 year old beast. God bless technology and GM power.
