I had just returned from lunch on September 15, 2009, when I received a phone call from Sport Truck Magazine Senior Editor Calin Head.
I could tell that something was wrong; he asked if I had heard the news. Upon my reply of "no," he told me that the magazine had been cut that morning. All work on the next issue, January 2010, was to be stopped immediately, even though the issue was a few days from being done.
I was simply shocked. Calin and Mike had just returned from their road trip to the RA Show in the Chevy, and we were looking forward to showing you guys all the "stuff" from their trip. I had just been at Subway the previous week with Mike, Calin, and Andy, and everything was fine. Dang it, in fact, I had just picked out a grille for my S10 as a future tech install.
It has taken me 4 months to write this blog because I have been in denial for that long. I made everything okay in my mind by declaring that Sport Truck was not gone, or that it would come back.
Some are surprised that this website is still up. Why be surprised? Is 20 years of Sport Truck just dead and meaningless overnight? Are all those great stories useless now? Absolutely not! The Sport Truck content preserved on this website will continue to get massive page impressions. We will continue to put up Web Exclusive content from magazine shoots, current shows, and the road trip. I will not abandon the hours and years of work on this site without kicking and screaming - loudly.
